Lambo Sweepstakes Update
I recently launched lambosweepstakes.com, a site where users fill out a few surveys and in return are entered into a raffle for a Lamborghini as well as a number of iPods. You can check out the original post with all the info here. The site went up two days ago and so far I haven’t had time to do any real marketing other than posting a Facebook event and showing a few friends, and it’s pulled in a total of $55. There are two main issues I’m trying to figure out how to fix, so I wanted to run them by you all to see if you had any ideas.
- Too many entry requirements. To enter the raffle, people have to fill out five surveys that range from 1-4 pages and will take a total 5-10 minutes. When people visit the site, they are presented with a list of the five surveys and there are so many that it seems overwhelming, and thus people don’t want to enter. I’m trying to figure out a way to change it up so the entry requirements are either a lot shorter, or the same length but appear a lot shorter. One idea I had was making it so only one survey is required, and then people can do additional surveys to increase their chances.
- People think it’s fake. A few people have said it sounds so crazy that it doesn’t seem like it could be real. They don’t understand how it could possibly make money and they in turn believe it to be a scam. I was thinking about making the URL into a decal and putting it on the windshield and recording some videos of me driving it around - that would at least prove that we actually have the car, but it doesn’t really do anything for the people who think it’s a scam because “there’s no way anyone would ever give away a Lambo.” Someone also suggested that I update the “is this real” page to be less colloquial and create a separate “sweepstakes rules” page, rather than bunching it all together in the “terms of use.”
I’m interested to know what you all think and if you have any ideas, let me know. I’ll keep ya’ll updated as far as how much it’s making, as well as describing some of the marketing tactics that I’m using to draw traffic, so look forward to future posts about this.

Do you already have the car? If so I would get some real life photos as you suggested. I was assuming that you would buy the car with the money that you made from the contest. If that isn’t the case and it’s already in your possession, definitely put the url on a decal and drive it around to promote it. Just be VERY careful
I think the Rich Jerk added a lot to his credibility by shooting a quick video of “his” car and “his” house and putting that video on the page. Hot chics surrounding it always help too. I think you could get major coverage by just showing it in your possession and pimping the giveaway.Post the videos on youtube and possibly enter it in the youtube “contests” section.
I think that you are absolutely right….photos make people have a goal. Remember vague goals are no goals at all. Giving them photos gives them a dream to purse and thus do more for it.
If you don’t have it… you could always “rent” one. There are ways to “rent” a house or car temporarily for a Photo Shoot, kinda like renting a woman for a brief photo shoot. Hmmm… Rich Jerk? If that guy is really “that guy from the video” I would be surprised.
Haha… I’m sure it’s a paid actor but it still lends legitimacy. Those of us that can call bullshit are unfortunately part of a select few. We are also the ones more apt to rent the lambo and model
Yeah I remember reading that he’s just an actor, a pretty bad one at that
You can have a “step one”, then “step two” with each step being a different survey in an iframe below the steps so that way it doesnt present so much at once and your visitors will be more likely to fill out more surveys ;).
That’s not a bad idea. I’m leaning a little towards making only one survey required, and then they can click a link to a bunch more and they can do as many as they want to increase their chances. Trying to decide if I should keep the second page (with the “survey 1″ “survey 2″ etc buttons) and change it up or just have everything done from the landing page. I’m also considering putting more glow on the “enter the raffle!” button or putting an arrow next to it or something so it’s obvious that’s what you need to click to enter … at first I thought it was obvious but it does look like it blends into the page a little too much.
Thanks for the ideas. As far as the videos, putting them on Youtube would definitely help draw traffic, but it doesn’t really help with new visitors who are coming to the site from search engines, anyone have any ideas about that?
Definitely agree with reducing the number of surveys back to one. When you start promoting it on Digg it’ll increase your sign up ratio.
I’d shoot the YouTube videos and embed or link to them on the site itself. Include the decal and mention it in the video so people can see that its you and the car, not something you’ve ripped off another site. I think you need to strike the balance between professional video and home made to achieve the look of what you want.
Wait, im a little confused…how do you enter the raffle??? I clicked the first survey and I have to register and all that….do I just choose any one of the offers to take a survey for??? Thanks…
You’re actually supposed to do all of them, but I realized it’s not 100% clear so I’m changing it up. To enter now, you need to do all five surveys as well as click the link in the confirmation email for each of them.
Did anyone notice that Mom’s Cash Blog went down for a few hours? Does anyone know what going on with that? Looks pretty funny to me after Krysti told JJ she could lose her site. That is a sad situation JJ is in.
Put a hot girl in the car, girls always sell better than men do.
Even hot men like ME???
LMAO! Yes, hot girls outsell even hot men like YOU every time!!!!! That’s why YOU have a hot chick on your logo, isn’t it? LOL When I get my site up maybe I will use a man’s oiled up body as my logo,,,,, see if that works! (I doubt it though cuz it will turn the men off and even women are visually drawn to other pretty women!) I’d rather see a man in jeans, laid back and confident…. it tells me more about their personality. Male models don’t show much personality.
I better get off this site……. I’m afraid you might hypnotize me and seduce me! LMAOOOOO. (Love that ad…. I’m drawn right to it.) I must say all of your ads are very intriguing.
I think both of your original suggestions are good ones.
Something that confused me a little bit that you might want to clear up is that when I went to the links it was asking me to create an account first. I wasn’t sure if I just needed to create an account, or actually create an account and then take a survey with my newly created account.
It would be ideal if they didn’t have to register but were just presented with a survey. But if they need an account, then explicitly state that they have to register AND THEN take the survey.
Good luck!
Hi, I am coolingstar9, nice to visit your site, like to know more about traffic in your future post, have a nice day.
Stak,
Noticed you hadn’t implemented my suggestion on the contest rules link popup. Honestly I think you’d make it look a lot more credible if there was a Contest Rules legalese popup instead of the one you have that makes you sound like a guy going “hey buddy…you can trust me, why would I take your money and run…”
Also, not sure if you contacted DLBlair or another fulfillment shop like I recommended but you are opening yourself up to a potentially huge legal shitstorm by changing the contest rules after the contest has begun and after people have already entered.
When the stakes are this high (and believe me, a Lambo is high stakes), if people feel they got fucked they may take it so far as the courtroom where (while IANAL) I doubt you’d have a legal leg to stand on if you changed rules partway through.
Not to sound harsh, as I think its fantastic how you are trying to stand out from the crowd by doing this…but there are just some things with this that seem very…well, unprofessional, and thus untrustworthy. If you change the rules, how is someone supposed to trust that you won’t change them again in the future in a way that screws them out of a chance to win this?
Just my .02…and thanks for your tips on my other site you looked at previously…I’m currently rolling out a tweaked version to a fantastic domain I just grabbed with a new merchant in the same field that pays double the commission, has fewer requirements and will give me a free 800 number.
