Stupidest Scammers Part 1

Published by SL on Jun 10, 2008 under Random

Have you ever been scammed? Maybe you bought something and never received it, or you paid for a service and it was never delivered? Sometimes it’s hard to tell the real sellers from the scammers, but luckily a lot of these scammers are idiots who are extremely easy to spot. And what do we do with them? Why, we post their personal info on this blog!

I was looking for a new web designer awhile back and I found this guy named Karl Tombak on Myspace. He owned a graphic design company called Flava Media and his portfolio was VERY good, so after exchanging a few emails I sent him $750 as a deposit for a site design. He finished the intro page and then asked me to send the rest of the money, and of course I told him to fuck off and finish the rest of site. A few months later, the site still wasn’t finished and he didn’t respond to emails anymore. I searched his name on Google (”Karl Tombak”) and apparently he’s scammed a lot of people. Since he lives in Canada and the loss was only a small amount, I didnt really want to waste too much time with legal proceedings, and I don’t even know if I could if I wanted to since he lives in another country. Plus, the money isn’t really that big a deal and I’d rather just stay home and watch Prison Break than have to deal with all that hassle. Anyway, let’s take a look at little Karl:

I have to admit I was pretty annoyed when I saw how many people he had scammed, but as soon as I saw his picture I probably LOL’d for a good five minutes and after that I didn’t really give a fuck anymore. I also thought it would be fun to post his personal info up here, incase anyone is bored and wants to harass him:

name: karl tombak
address: 111 Huntsman Cr. in Kanata, Ontario K2M 1H8
home phone #: (613) 599-7892
email: flavamedia@hotmail.com

os: windows xp

dad’s name: jack tombak
girlfriend: sarah st. aubin
gf’s #: (905) 929-2507
gf’s email: sarah@techwayhosting.com and info@techwayhosting.com
gf’s msn: msn@techwayhosting.com

I said in a past post that it’s a very stupid idea to try to fuck someone over when they can fuck you over a lot harder, and in this case Karl is the one doing the fucking up. Yeah, he fucked me out of a few hundred bucks, but I have his, his dad’s, and his girlfriend’s addresses and phone numbers. Honestly, this kid is up there with the stupidest of the stupid. I also thought it might be fun to DDOS his site (basically overloading the server with requests so it fucks it up and no one else can access it) so he can’t scam anyone else. This just goes to show that wiggers ARE as stupid as they look

Sorry to hear that you were scammed. However you did not provide any insight on what factors make scammers easy to spot.

I am a Canadian, and retired from the Purchasing profession.
I did a search on “flavamedia” on the BBB Ontario website, and the company is listed as Robotic Designs with the same name, address, and telephone number that you showed in your post. The company is listed as Unsatisfactory to do business with according to the BBB.
http://ottawa.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=146&bbb=0117&firm=24096
Certainly it would be appropriate for you to lodge a complaint against the company with the BBB.

A search on BBB in the US or Canada could be a useful tool as a start before sending money to a company that you have not done business with before.

To answer your question, you could sue him of course, but you would have to hire a Canadian lawyer, and would hardly be worth the cost or hassle. Any law suit of course against him could only be launched in Canada. Typically contract disputes are resolved in the country of origin (in this case Canada) unless otherwise agreed to/established at the time the contract is formed.

It’s better to check their portfolios thoroughly before making a financial decision like that. And my space is the worst place to look for web designers because it’s the same place to find those sex offenders.

If you buy things on eBay and you live in the same city as the seller you should always just say you want to meet up. Real sellers will always do this because it saves them time and money, so you can always tell the scammers as the ones who have excuses about why they can’t.

I find it ironic. All he is trying to do is make money with out doing nothing, which is somewhat of a theme of your site heh. That is too bad though that he scammed you. Scamming is bad.

There’s a difference between blackhat marketing and illegal scamming. I’d never advise you to try to scam people, especially something as simple as this, because if you did it on a large enough scale to actually make a significant profit you’ll almost surely get caught in the end.

Sorry you got scammed, but great payback. One day I hope to know enough to get back at a scammer like that.
